Zelda: Breath of the Wild will have a Season Pass

Legend of Zelda producer, Eiji Aonuma, announced this morning that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be getting an “Expansion Pass” that includes 2 DLC packs as well as a bonus pack.

The Expansion Pass will be available for purchase on day one, March 3, 2017 for $19.99 in the US, £17.99 in the UK, and €19.99 for EU.

The Bonus Pack for purchasing the Pass is available to download right away, while the 2 DLC packs will release later in the year.

The contents included in these packs are as follows:

Expansion Pass Bonus – March 3, 2017
• 3 new Treasure Chests
— Found in the Great Plateau
— Contains useful items
— Includes exclusive in-game clothing

DLC Pack 1 – Summer 2017
• Adds new Cave of Trials challenge
• New Hard Mode
• Additional Map Feature

DLC Pack 2 – Holiday 2017
• New original story
• New dungeon
• Additional challenges

This marks the first time Nintendo has released day one DLC. This also marks the first time a single-player Nintendo game has had a season pass. The feedback from fans is already a mixed reception. Many fans have wanted Nintendo to be more conventional in regards to their games and hardware. This could certainly be considered a standard practice for modern games, but maybe not exactly what everyone had in mind. Has Nintendo taken a step in the wrong direction, or is this a great way to keep the game expanding after release?
