It won’t be long now before Star Fox Zero is released on Wii U. Shigeru Miyamoto had a few things to say on Nintendo Direct to prepare us for the launch. The story and game mechanics will be similar to Star Fox 64, but the plot and map structure are new. Teleporters will appear in game and you can use them to branch to different places on the map. There will also be alternate paths within stages that will take you to alternate levels, like you may have seen in Star Fox 64.
After clearing normal mode, new paths will appear on the map, giving you plenty to do after you’ve beaten the game. Exploring the different paths reveals the Star Wolf team, who you can battle throughout the game. Multiplayer mode shows some co-operative play in which one player pilots an arwing and the other will aim and shoots.
Now you saw it coming, amiibo support! Using a Fox amiibo unlocks the classic arwing from the Super Nintendo Star Fox. A nice little nod to any retro fans who have played and enjoyed the game in the 90s. Supposedly amiibo will have more functions than that, but nothing more specific was stated.
