Our first glimpse at Salmon Run, a new mode introduced in Splatoon 2, gives me the impression of the zombie mode in a certain other first-person shooter.

A team of four inklings work together on a derelict man-made island as mindless salmon-like creatures known as “chum”, come from the water and somehow make their way onto the land and attack for “some unknown reason.” It’s a rather cheeky explanation, but it does look like a substantial add-on to the series.

The chum come in waves and attack and your job is to attack them and collect their eggs. As the inklings splat the chum, they drop “power eggs” which you collect. You also encounter boss type chum that require a different strategy to take down.

Are you excited to try out Salmon Run? This is the first time a full team can play co-op in Splatoon. It may be a fun distraction from the main multiplayer.
